I decided to show you the dining room reveal while it’s arrayed in its fall glory. Along with all the other rooms downstairs, the dining room got a couple of coats of Benjamin Moore Crystalline to brighten it up and bring more cohesion between rooms.
It was previously (and for several years) this pumpkin color.
A little bit different now, huh?
The change I was most eager to make was to move the chippy old hutch
off the top of the corner buffet…
and place it on top of the longer, more suitable white buffet.
I love it in its new home. Along with moving it, I purged the brown transferware,
leaving only shades of white ironstone.
The architectural header made the perfect topper and a day at the orchard last week
yielded my ever favorite bittersweet.
I flanked the hutch with a pair of Italian sconces. I love their elegance in juxtaposition with the rustic farmhouse hutch. The sconces are each located right next to a window so their dripping prisms really sparkle on sunny days. When I show you my entry hall you will see
where the sconces previously hung.
I love how much lighter everything feels now. One of the things I still want to do is make over the dark trestle table and chairs. That will have to be a 2016 project.
At the opposite end of the room sits my desk. I will show you what I did to make that area so much more appealing in part 2.
This week in “A Little Bird Told Me” I am sharing a tiny tip that made a huge difference in my life.
Anyone who suffers from debilitating migraines should really give this a try!

Ann, your changes look amazing! The bittersweet really adds instant autumn, doesn’t it? Everything looks beautiful and interesting and full of great texture. Well done!
Thank you Tina! Yes, bittersweet is just the essence of autumn. xo
Beautiful! What a difference lightening the walls makes. It really shows off your beautiful pieces now.
Hi Christy! Thank you so much! Love your blog name, I can relate!
Hi Christy! Love the ironstone and moving the hutch. I hope you’ll visit me at bringingfrenchcountryhome.blogspot.com.
Thanks a bunch Pat! I’ll swing by!
Ann great difference! Amazing what lighter colors do! The style of the sconce is super but did you ever think of doing them bronze or black? The gold seems off w the distressed white and areas of natural wood.
Hello Susan! Thank you so much. One of the things I really like about the sconces is the original gilt finish and how it is in contrast with the softer shades. I appreciate your input though!
My favourite part is the sconces. I think they add a lovely touch of whimsy that brings out the chippy cottage look of the hutch. And moving the hutch to the larger buffet, genius! Just the opinion of another Susan :)
Hi another Susan! Thank you for your thoughts!
Ann, your dining room is lovely. What a difference just the change in color makes. I so glad you shared the color you painted it. It looks like the color I want for my sun room. Thank you for sharing at Vintage Charm and please come back this Thursday to share more of your vintage experiences.
Thank you Sharon! It’s a very versatile color.
Moving the chippy old hutch from the corner buffet to the larger white piece was a great move. And, the new white paint brightened the entire space which allows the bittersweet to really shine.
Judith
Hello Judith! I’m happy you stopped by, thank you for your kind comments!
Christy,
WoW!!!
Ethereal transformation, dear one!!!
I adore the switch of the hutch top to the white cabinet!!!
Ironstone makes my heart sing!!!
The simplistic touch of bittersweet whispers Autumn’s Arrival!!!
Thank you for sharing!!!
Fondly,
Pat
Hi Pat! Thank you very much. Have a wonderful week! ~Ann

Hello! I’m glad you’re glad. :)
What a difference! Love the color, such a beautiful space!
Thanks so much for sharing at AMAZE ME MONDAY!
Blessings,
Cindy
Thank you Cindy! Happy weekend!
Ann, I love the new color! Does it have a touch of blue? It really did lighten up the room. The hutch is wonderful and I love the architectural piece! Thanks for sharing with SYC.
hugs,
Jann
Yes it does have a little blue and a little green. Thanks Jann!
Ann, I love your DR! The hutch and buffet took my breath away just now when I saw it featured on Cindy’s blog. The architectural piece is perfect, as are the sconces for that yin yang juxtaposition. The new color made a huge difference – proof positive that paint can change a room dramatically. Congrats on the feature.

Thank you so much Rita! I appreciate your visit!
Ann, the transformation in your dining room is amazing. I love a little bling, so the sconces are beautiful juxtaposed with the rustic! Blessings,
Pam (www.everydayliving.me)
Hello Pam! Thanks a bunch! A little bling ~ yes please!
whoa…love your “after”, especially the hutch. So much better with the bigger, white bottom. Funny, I have been thinking I might go a shade of pumpkin-y yellowish on my walls—so glad I saw your before as that would’ve been a mistake for me! The new color makes your rooms look so much bigger and better.
Thanks! I loved the pumpkin for a while but I do love light and bright even more.
I love your new look and like how you moved the hutch to the other white piece of furniture. I loved the pumpkin color too but the lighter color makes it look brighter. Love the scones too!
Hi Cathy! Thanks for taking the time to comment! Have a wonderful week!
Beautiful makeover! I love your Italian sconces. I’ll be that they really are pretty when the light hits the prisms.
Thank you so much Paula!
Love your changes, though have to say those pumpkin color walls are gorgeous. The farm house table is fabulous. I wish I had space for one in our dining room, but a small square space makes it impossible.
Happy November!
Hello Sarah! Thank you for your sweet comments. Our dining room is long and narrow so that’s what happens to work best. It’s somewhat cramped when we get lots of family gathered around but we make it work!
HI Ann, love your dining room! Featuring you at SYC this week.
hugs,
Jann
Oh how exciting! Thank you Jann! Hugs!
I love everything! It turned out amazing.
Thanks a bunch Pamela!
ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL TRANSFORMATION! THANKS FOR SHARING IT AND YOUR MIGRAINE TIP — IT WILL DEFINITELY GIVE IT A TRY, AS I SUFFER AS WELL — ALTHOUGH MY WARNING IS A TWITCHING / PULSE IN MY EYE. TAKE CARE! CYNTHIA
Hi Cynthia! Thanks a bunch. It’s worth a try for sure, I hope it helps you as much as it does me.
This is a clear example of how paint color can totally transform a room! I love the new color!
Hi there Susan! Thank you so much! Have a wonderful weekend!
Everything looks fabulous!
