Picking Pumpkins with My Punkin

It occurred to me recently that I haven’t ever really posted about my near and dears.

I am generally a pretty private person, so I feel the need to keep parts of my life to myself. But it doesn’t seem right to not share with you some of what brings me the biggest joys in my life, family. So I have a new commitment to myself and my readers to share snippets of my personal life when relevant and appropriate.

Yesterday morning, as with most weekday mornings, I had the pleasure of having my 5 year-old grandson with me before driving him to kindergarten. We have a small pumpkin patch of baby boos and he loves to help me pick them. So we got a bucket and started picking. We filled it up, then I washed them and he dried them. Such a good little helper he is!
 These pictures were taken last year, my husband wasn’t around to snap any this time.
Whoa, my hair was so short!!
I love my punkin and my pumpkins!
Next week I’ll have a post with our baby boos as the stars.
And in the fall vein, here’s a before picture of a small wreath that I made bigger for my front door.
I’ll show you the after next week.
I hope you’re having and enjoying the beautiful fall weather where you live.
Drink it in while it’s here.
Till next time,
Ann

Black and White and Red All Over

Still a few warm days left and I found this cute dress a couple weeks ago for a steal so I’m sneaking it in before the weather turns cold. Of course, I can think of lots of cold weather ways to restyle it too, with tights and jackets.
{Black and White Polka Dot Dress: Merona THRIFTED $4.00} {Boots: Roxy $59.00}
{Leopard Handbag: vintage THRIFTED $8.00} {Necklace: Tarnished Royalty for sale here }

I love polka dots! Do you love polka dots? I feel like a girlie girl when I wear them.
And that’s a fun thing!

GIRLS WANT PEARLS: Make These Boot Cuffs in MINUTES for PENNIES

Welcome to week #9 of Girls Want Pearls!
You know those sweaters of yours or your man’s hanging in the closet that need to go away? Hang on, here’s a way you can turn them into a fun new piece in your fall and winter wardrobe. Yep, you can turn your ratty old sweaters into gorgeously stylish boot cuffs!

 This project is seriously easy! I promise you can do it in a short amount of time and for under $5. It cost me about $2.50 for each pair I made.  There are so many different looks you could create with different sweater colors and textures and different pearl patterns. I think a creamy off-white or oatmeal sweater would be pretty or maybe you prefer bright colors. I picked up these sweaters from a local thrift shop for $1.98 each.

The pairs in the two pics above took me all of 5 minutes per cuff to complete. It would also be fun to sprinkle in some smaller size pearls in the above design.  The pair in the top pic took a little longer, about 10 minutes per cuff.

The how-to is pretty self-explanatory but here are a few hints:
1) Wait till your husband isn’t looking, then pull out that sweater of his you hate and cut off the sleeves.
2) Plan out your design and mark it off with straight pins or pencil marks, or just wing it if it’s simple.
3) With each pearl, I sewed in an extra stitch on the inside of the cuff before moving on to the next pearl. I just kept the thread going rather than cutting it off after each pearl in the interest of time. It makes for some longish lines of thread but I think they’ll stay just fine once the boot cuff is in place.
4) You can tuck under the cut edge if you want for a more finished look.

Now strut your stuff and delight in the fact that you reclaimed, transformed and redeemed a piece that was destined for the fashion graveyard!

Brown and Black Leather Mixing

This is how I’m dressed most often, in my comfy old jeans. The faux leather jacket is something I’ve had for a few years and it’s washable! So needless to say, it has gotten tons of use and will get even more this fall and winter.

The black patent vintage handbag is something I found probably 10 years ago.
Do you like mixing brown and black?

I just made and listed this Art Nouveaux face necklace in my shop.
