Purple and Pearls

I almost titled this post Purple, Pearls and Pudge because that’s how I feel right now! I have been indulging in fattening foods while hibernating during this long cold February. As a result, my jeans are fitting more tightly and I don’t like it! It’s time to shake it off, eat less and move around more.

Just a quick outfit share, not particularly inspired. I purchased this sweater during a thrift shopping spree several months ago. It has a sweet look that is more fitting with how I dressed a few years ago. I was drawn by the pearls and the price and the desire for new things in my closet.

I paired it with a white button down blouse, giving it a slightly preppy feel. I added a simple pearl bracelet and a pair of my lace covered ball earrings.

I’m okay with the overall look for a casual day, but I’ll probably pass the sweater on after a couple more wears.

I’ve been doing the hula hoop for exercise. I’m bored with the treadmill and other “regular” exercise. I can’t wait to get out and bike ride when the weather gets nicer. What’s your favorite non-exercise exercise?

A Tunic and a Long Necklace

I love a good tunic. Tunics cover your bum when you are feeling modest.

gray_tunic_long_necklace_3

A tunic is not quite a dress but a little more than just a top. They go perfectly with leggings which go perfectly with a no-jeans kind of day.

And tunics are great for showing off a long necklace.

I layered a lace top underneath the gray tunic to tie in with the lace of the necklace. My long necklace is one I created using a rusty piece of hardware as the base, covered in vintage lace and adorned with a chunky red vintage button. The small pop of red was enough color to keep my outfit from feeling drab and dreary like the winter days we’ve been having.

Wearing a tunic and leggings is much like wearing a dress and tights. Often times I feel like an occasion doesn’t quite call for a dress. When I want to wear something just a little more casual I pull out my tunic. Now that I have sung the praises of tunics, I think I need to get a couple more!

Here I am wearing the same outfit in our newly renovated wine cellar where we hosted our couples Christmas party this past December.

Leopard Love

It’s been a while since I’ve posted an outfit so I decided to share what I wore to church a couple of weeks ago. I’ve shown this leopard vest in an outfit before, where I paired it with shorts, tights and a button down shirt.

It’s super soft and cozy so I reach for it every chance I get. It goes with any color and even works with print mixing. I love that it has both brown and black in it.

Here I have it paired with pants that have a tiny houndstooth pattern in black and white, and black boots. In the previous outfit I paired it with brown tights and brown boots. I chose a basic scoop neck top in cobalt for a pop of color and to dress it down a little bit.

Red leather gloves add more color and interest and were just enough warmth for the 40-ish temps that day.

I kept my jewelry simple with blue drop earrings and a bracelet from my own collection stacked with a couple of beaded bracelets.

One of the things I love about leopard and other animal prints is how it can make an otherwise stuffy outfit feel relaxed and playful. It’s impossible to wear it and feel like a bore! Are you a fan of animal prints? Meow.

OOTD Living in Jeans

Hey there! I’m really enjoying the warmer weather, how about you? We kind of skipped right over spring here in the Midwest and went right into really warm – hot temps. So, while I’m wearing jeans a lot at the moment, I will be wearing a lot more skirts and shorts in the very near future. I’m on the hunt for a new maxi, either dress or skirt.

You really can’t go wrong with skirts for summer, they’re such an easy way to be cool and breezy. What are your go-to summer pieces, skirts, shorts or dresses? Do you keep wearing jeans when the weather gets super hot?

Diagonal Stripes and Denim

This time of year with the weather so wishy-washy, there’s no better friend in my closet than my jean jacket.
stripe_skirt1
When I wore this outfit to church it was cool, almost chilly, but later in the day when it warmed up I shed the jacket and was very comfortable. Cardigans are great for the cold/warm issue too, but jean jackets are so versatile they’re my go-to wrap.

There’s something kinda old-school edgy about them, don’t you think?

Outfit of the Day + My Swap Item

I’m loving this warm weather, time for skirts and sandals, hanging out on the patio, drinking lemonade, yard sales etc. etc.

My legs are quite white as you can see by the photos so you might want to wear your shades for safe viewing.

Do you like my wrap? Well, it’s going up for grabs at this week’s Drop It or Swap It! It’s very light and silky soft, with blues/pinks/reds, and appliques and sequins on the back.

By Junky Munky, it’s a piece I have loved for a couple of years. BUT it’s one of those items that I saw myself wearing in an unflattering picture and decided I didn’t want it anymore. I have to say though, I don’t think I ever paired it with the white jean skirt, and looking at these photos I still rather like it.
junkymunky5
But I’ve decided to let it go and I will stick to that decision. It’s marked small but I wear small to medium in tops and this one is definitely generous enough to be a medium in my opinion. Oh, and it’s machine washable!
