Luscious Lemon Yellow

I am so loving yellow right now. When I went thrifting a couple of weeks ago with two friends, we talked about what we were on the lookout for before we went. I said I wanted to find a solid color spring cardi and something yellow. Score and score! I found a coral cardigan that I’ll show you in an upcoming post, and I found this sweater and necklace.

I wore it Sunday to church when the temp was around 70. Afterward, during this shoot, it got really muggy and started to rain. So I had to move to the porch again to take pictures.

Please excuse the blurry photo. It was very windy and I liked the movement of my hair and sweater even though it’s not clear.

Earrings can be purchased in my shop here. Sweater: New York and Company, thrifted $8.

I hope you’re looking forward to Easter and have some plans to celebrate with family or friends. I am going to take Drop It or Swap It off for this week, but will be back next week for the second swap. If you haven’t checked it out yet, please take a gander here and make plans to join in the fun.

Girls Want Pearls #36: He Is Risen

Easter week is here and spring is in full bloom here in Missouri. I find it very invigorating to see things start to green up. What was once dead and brown is now alive again. Welcome to week #36 of Girls Want Pearls. Last week I shared a project using twigs and pearls to create a rustic cross. You can see it here.

This week I am going to show you how to create an entire scene around that cross.
crosspart2-1
crosspart2-2
To create the scene you’ll need:
*twigs
*wire
*glue
*moss, sheet type or other
*flower frogs or styrofoam
*platter or shallow basket
*fresh or faux flower blossoms
*approx. 100 pearls
*the pearly cross from the prior tutorial
crosspart2-step1
Create 2 more crosses using the twigs, wire and glue.
crosspart2-step2
crosspart2-step3
Arrange 3 flower frogs or 3 pieces of styrofoam on your platter as shown, with the one in the center elevated above the other two.
crosspart2-step4
Cover the area with moss, leaving a small opening around the center of each flower frog or styrofoam piece. Place the crosses and cover the rest of the way with moss. (Hint: if using the spike type of frogs, you’ll want to tap the twigs onto the frog using a hammer prior to putting them in place.)

Creating the pearl “Risen”:
Cut a piece of wire approx. 2 feet long (long enough to string on 100 pearls)

String the pearls, leaving 3 inches of uncovered wire on each end of the strand

Put a kink or a knot after the last pearl on each end, then fold the exposed wire in half and twist. You will use these ends to poke into the moss once you’ve created the pearl word.

With the wire end facing to the bottom, start forming the “R” and continue with each letter as shown.
crosspart2-3
It will take some bending and smooshing (pretty sure I use that word in almost every tutorial) to tweak the letters and give them the desired look.

Place “Risen” at the bottom of the hill, curving slightly toward the back, poking in the wire ends.
Sprinkle tiny flowers onto the moss with a light hand. Arrange larger blossoms or buds around the base of the center cross (I used magnolias but any faux flower will work).
crosspart2-4
Enjoy your creation, and let it bring a sense of the beauty of the cross and the indescribable love of the Savior to your heart and home.

Next week’s hint: Stay On Your Toes

Can’t Get Enough Stripes

It’s been a while since I’ve shared an outfit. I’m still feeling chubby from winter hibernating (i.e. overeating). I was able to go bike riding twice this past week so I’m on track to shed those 6-8 pounds I gained.

I have to give credit for this outfit to Alice of Happiness at Midlife. I loved the striped blazer she wore in this outfit.

Within the next few days of seeing her post, I went thrifting with friends and found this striped blazer.

Before I saw Alice’s post I prob wouldn’t have given this a second look, but I tried it on and loved it. Today I was lazy and paired it with jeans but I can think of a bunch of ways to remix it. So I have a great new piece in my wardrobe ~ thanks Alice!
stripe_blazer4
Please excuse my hair, I’m extremely overdue for a cut and highlight.

Necklace made from a vintage mother of pearl buckle and a vintage brass button: Tarnished Royalty. Blazer: Talbots, thrifted. Jeans: cheapies from Gordman’s.

I have some other pieces I picked up thrifting that I can’t wait to show you. Do you thrift shop for clothes? What are some of your recent finds? And speaking of stripes, if you haven’t seen my new link up yet, be sure to check it out in this post. I’m swapping a pair of Tommmy Hilfiger shoes full of stripey cuteness.

Drop It or Swap It #1 Link Party

Welcome to the first ever Drop It or Swap It link up!

As a blogger, I join in on several weekly link ups and have gotten to know so many lovely ladies that way. I wanted to make a way for “the girls” to get together in a different sort of way, both bloggers and non-bloggers. We all like new stuff and many of us share a love of shopping. And eventually we get over the love we once had for certain items and are ready to get rid of (swap) them.

Enter, Drop It or Swap It! Think of it as your weekly girls time to shop each others’ stash! By participating, you will get to know other girls, they will get to know you and your blog, and you’ll have fun getting new stuff!

Now let’s start the First Fantastically Fun, Friendly Frenzy of a swap!
Please read the guidelines and ask any questions in the comments.

* Link up a post that contains a picture and description of your swap item, using a permalink to your individual post not your general blog URL.
(Non-bloggers click here for a modified version of this)

* Look around at the other links until you spy something that interests you. Visit
as many as you like and when you find something you’d like to swap for, leave
the other blogger a comment with a link to your posted item.

* Leave as many swap offers as you like with different bloggers, but please
be courteous and only leave one comment each. If you don’t get a response
just assume the other blogger is not interested or has already swapped.

* Once you have committed to a swap, please edit your post with a note that
your item is already swapped so you won’t continue to get offers.
(Non-bloggers click here for a modified version of this)

* Exchange address info with your swap partner. Each person will pay shipping
for the item she is sending.

* Please follow your host, Tarnished Royalty with one of the following methods:
