Girls Want Pearls #31: This Little Light Of Mine

Happy Monday dear readers! I hope you had a good, refreshing weekend. It’s a new week full of new possibilities! Welcome to Girls Want Pearls #31. Today I want to show you how to turn ordinary objects into pearl dripping candle holders. I gathered up some of my ironstone collection, spools of string, and some glass bobeches.

I decided to keep it all neutral, so I used off white candles. The bobeches come in handy to both bridge the gap at the top of vessels and to hold the candles in place. I added stick tack to some of them to keep them even more stable. Swags can be made by hooking the pearls to the bobeches if they have holes/wire for that. Some of mine don’t so I just wrapped pearls around the candle base, then intertwined, swagged and dripped to get the desired effect.

Here’s a view from the top. You can see how I added pedestals to bring the height up on some of the pieces.

Almost anything can be turned into a candle holder ~ clear glass vases, mason jars, silver or tin pieces, teapots, the only limit is your imagination. Experiment and have fun!

  1. Oh I love this vignette, Ann! But what a dummy I am. What in tarnation are bobeches? Never heard of it! Love the addition of the spools of crochet thread.

    1. A perfectly legit question Jann, but for some reason made me laugh. You can see them best in the third picture, the view from above. They are glass pieces that surround the candle and catch any wax drips. Maybe they have another name?

  2. OH! I love this! How cool is that? REally cool! I have a lot of tea pots, and tea cups (because who has enough of THOSE?!) and I never thought of this. I love the string too! AND I never knew what a bobeche was before! I need some more of those…..

  3. Very pretty and I do love pearls! For my daughter’s follow up Celebration of Marriage Reception (as her Exchanging of Vows was in Jamaica), strands of pearls were used throughout the decorating theme. As it was so close to Christmas we even decorated the artificial Xmas trees with seven foot strands of them paired with large white Calla Lilies and mini white lights. They were also used on the table tops and intertwined where ever possible. The result, was amazing. -Brenda-

    1. That sounds just lovely, Brenda. How beautiful that must have been with calla lilies! I always think of weddings when I decorate with pearls.

  4. And here’s yet another reason why I love you – you collect ironstone!

I started buying ironstone to sell, and soon realized I couldn’t part with any of it.
Now I’ll have to amp up my collection of pearls and get started on these pearly towers.

    1. I was just thinking about you! I was upstairs in my studio and I can’t remember what made me think of you but I was wondering what you’ve been up to. Hope you’re having a great week!

  5. Love this vignette♥ I just found a huge stash of white yarn, string, jute…..already have the ironstone. Thank you for the inspiration.

  6. Amazing! I just came from Marty, from Inspire Me Tuesday, where you are featured and it immediately caught my eye! How talented you are, this vignette with the thread spools is awesome!
