Girls Want Pearls Post #1: FROM PRETTY TO FABULOUS!

Happy Monday and let me just say,
Welcome to the very first Girls Want Pearls post!
The first of 52 posts all about pearls.
Yes, every Monday we will be looking at pearls in a whole new light as I share some ways to get creative in your wardrobe and decor using the beloved pearl. So without further ado, I now reveal this week’s idea:
TURNING A FRINGED SCARF FROM PRETTY . . .
TO FABULOUS!
I decided to launch my series using one of my all-time favorite accessories.
How do I love thee, scarf? Let me count the ways…
I should save that for another post. Suffice it to say that every girl should have a good stash
of these versatile fashion staples.
Here’s what you’ll need:
1) A fringed scarf
2) Pearls in a size and color of your choosing (I used 10 millimeter in Ecru)
*please note here ~ large holed pearls work best. There is a workaround that I’ll explain but it is more labor intensive. And if you use large-holed pearls that’s it for the supply list.
It’s as simple as threading a piece of fringe through the hole in the pearl, sliding the pearl to the top and tying a knot (or two if needed) right below the pearl to hold it in place. Depending on the size and type of the fringe as well as the hole in the pearl, you may choose to slip one or multiple fringe threads through the pearl. You could also “pearlize” alternating fringe if you didn’t want to do every one.
Now for the work around if you can only find small-hole pearls. You’ll need these additional supplies:
*Needle threader
*Hemostats (helpful for pulling the fringe through)
If you can only find small-hole pearls, do this:
1)Insert the needle threader into the hole of the pearl.
2)Insert the piece of fringe through the wire of the needle threader
3)Pull the threader back through the pearl, holding onto the fringe so it doesn’t escape
4)Work the threader and fringe through the pearl, using the hemostats as needed
5)Remove the threader and tie a knot just below the pearl to hold it in place.
In my example I used small hole pearls and the slower method. It took me a little over an hour to do 32 pearls (16 on each scarf end), but I was jittery from too much coffee so you may be able to accomplish it in less time :).
I can’t wait to share another pearly post with you next Monday.
I won’t tell you what it is but here’s a hint: not just another pretty face.
Have a great Monday!

  1. I love pearls and I love this idea! What a great way to really dress up a scarf and add a little uniqueness to it…and it looks easy enough that I could actually manage!

  2. Hi! What a pretty idea for your scarf. I love wearing scarves as well! I think this is my first visit to your blog. I’d love to have you link up with my Homemaking Party, if you’d like.
